Questions to Ask:

There are many things to look for when considering care for your kitty. The following are some questions we feel are important to ask and consider for any facility or caregiver. If you have any other questions, please ask!

When touring do the cats look happy?

We think so but come take a tour and judge for yourself!

Is the facility clean and odor free?

This also can only be judged in person. Come for a visit!

What are the facility’s hours?

The majority of our work is done before and after "appointment hours".  Our appointment hours are reserved for check-ins, check-outs and tours. Appointments are available Monday- Saturday mornings between 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Monday-Friday afternoons between 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Sundays and Holidays. Lobby closed. No check-ins, check-outs or tours are available.

Does the facility have smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, and carbon monoxide detectors? If so how many and are they current?

Yes, we have six smoke alarms, four fire extinguishers and one carbon monoxide detector. Yes, they are current and we change the batteries in our smoke alarms every six months.

What is disinfected in the facility?

Essentially everything that comes into contact with your cat. This includes every inch of the suite in between each guest as well as litter pans, litter scoops, food and water bowls, brushes, and bedding. We also wash our hands in between caring for each guest.

Is there a HEPA air system?

Yes, we have a HEPA air filtration system in our lobby. Additionally, each suite is negatively pressurized so cats do not share air!

Is there a lot of sunlight or do bulbs simulate natural sunlight?

Yes, we have a bright and sunlit facility. For the rainy Washington days, our lighting features full spectrum bulbs which simulate sunshine!

Can you see where the cat will spend his time?

Yes! You will not only see our suites, you can have a tour of our entire facility. You can even see where we prepare our special meals and fold the laundry!

What is the size of the enclosures where kitty will be staying?

We offer quite a variety. The Executive Studios are three feet wide, three and half feet deep and three feet tall. Our suites start at three feet wide, four feet deep, seven feet tall and they go up in size!

Do the cats have community play time or are they kept separate?

To ensure health, happiness and safety, we do not have community playtime. We prefer cats stay in their suites. If we were to let the cats out to roam, it would defeat the purpose of each suite having its own individual ventilation system. Also, we would need to clean and disinfect the floor in between each cat’s “outing”, just as we clean and disinfect the suites in between guests. Lastly, while all of our entrances have double entry door system, we do not want to chance your kitty sneaking out.

Is the staff friendly and informed?

Yes and we invite you to come and judge for yourself.

Have the staff been trained in pet first aid?

Yes, all of our staff have been pet first aid trained and Kolleen is an American Red Cross Pet First Aid Instructor.

How long have the staff been working there?

Kolleen and Hans opened the facility in November of 1999.

Molly and Christy joined Cat Nap Inn in the spring of 2004 and Treva in March of 2007.

What does the staff do to stay current in their field?

We belong to the American Boarding Kennel Association. We also attend feline related classes, conferences, workshops and read!

Is there a back up staff if some staff become ill?

Yes, we always have a back up staff person.

What is the cat to staff ratio?

We have one full-time and four part-time employees for our twenty-three suites and six studios.

We have chosen to remain small to offer exceptional service and unmatched personalized care for you and your kitty.

What does the staff do to help shy or first time cats settle in?

We let the cat tell us. Some cats need time and space while others need some extra TLC. We offer privacy screens, hidey huts, and Feliway if needed.

Does the staff have a set and regular schedule since kitty won’t have the usual home schedule?

Yes, we have an extremely strict schedule we adhere to. We have found cats like a schedule.

Can you bring items from home? What can you pack?

We ask that you use a carrier or harness and leash when arriving and departing, an itinerary with telephone numbers where you can be reached or the telephone numbers of local friends or family in case of emergency.

You are welcome to bring along your cat’s favorite bed or small blanket. If it smells like home and/or you, it will help your kitty settle in. While we recommend not laundering the item before your kitty’s visit, we request that all items are washable so we may wash and “freshen” it as needed. You are also welcome to bring along a favorite toy. We also highly recommend bringing a cardboard scratch pad. Leave your cat’s water and food dishes at home. We prefer to use our own dishes.

What if a cat becomes ill? Does the facility have their own vet or use the kitty’s vet?

We prefer for your kitty to see his own vet that knows him best. If your veterinarian is unavailable, one of the community on-call veterinarians will be contacted.

Can the staff administer medications?

Yes, we can administer oral medications and insulin injections for a small additional charge. We do need to discuss your kitty’s medical condition or diabetes at the time of initial reservation and we will need a “doctor’s note” stating that staying with us will not compromise his health.

How often are litter pans replaced?

We completely replace our litter pans once a year and recommend you do the same!
